If you’ve ever ordered a custom printed cube or are thinking about it, you might wonder:
How does the design actually get onto the puzzle?
At PrintYourOwnSpeedcube.com, we use a method called UV printing — a fast, precise, and high-quality process that makes your design look great and last longer.
Let’s take a closer look at how it works.
🖨️ What Is UV Printing?
UV printing stands for Ultraviolet printing, and it’s a type of digital printing that uses ultraviolet light to instantly cure (dry) ink as it’s printed onto a surface.
Unlike traditional inkjet printers that spray ink and let it air-dry or absorb into the material, UV printers:
-
Spray the ink directly onto the surface
-
Instantly harden the ink using UV light
-
Produce sharp, vibrant, durable images
🔄 The UV Printing Process (Step by Step)
-
You Upload Your Design
On our site, you upload images for each side of your cube. We prepare them to match the orientation of each cube face. -
The Design Is Processed
The images are sent to a UV printer — a special type of flatbed printer that works with 3D objects like cube parts. -
Ink Is Applied to Each Plastic Face
The printer sprays microscopic droplets of UV ink onto each cube face. These inks are specially formulated to bond to plastic. -
UV Light Instantly Cures the Ink
As soon as the ink hits the surface, UV lights follow behind, curing (drying) it instantly. This prevents smudging and ensures sharp edges. -
The Parts Are Assembled Into a Cube
Once all the parts are printed and dried, the cube is assembled and checked for quality. -
It’s Packed and Shipped to You
The finished product is included in our next shipment from our trusted manufacturer and delivered to you!
✅ Why UV Printing Is Ideal for Cubes
-
Bright, Accurate Colours – Your designs stay sharp and vibrant
-
Long-Lasting – UV ink is scratch-resistant and doesn’t fade easily
-
No Stickers – The print is directly on the cube plastic — no peeling, no shifting
-
Custom Shapes and Surfaces – Unlike traditional printing, UV printers can print on non-flat, non-paper materials — perfect for puzzle pieces
